We are delighted to announce that John Ringwood has been elected a Fellow of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) in recognition of “contributions to the development of wave energy control technology.”

This prestigious honour places John among a select group of just 25 individuals worldwide elevated to IFAC Fellowship each triennium. Notably, John is the first-ever IFAC Fellow from the Republic of Ireland, marking a significant milestone for both the country’s research community and the field of control engineering.

Fellowship is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding and seminal contributions to the science and technology of control in areas of significance to IFAC. Candidates are nominated and supported by leading experts in the discipline.

“It’s quite an honour being the first ever IFAC Fellow in RoI, and humbled to have been nominated and supported through the process by some of the real ‘gods’ of control.”

John’s recognition highlights both the global impact of their research and the growing importance of wave energy and renewable technology in addressing climate and sustainability challenges.
