Biography

Eugenio Martín Gelos comes from Mar del Plata, Argentina. He earned his degree in Electromechanical Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (UNMDP) in 2017. In 2022 and 2023, he joined the Departments of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering at UNMDP as an Assistant Professor of Classical Mechanics and Control Theory, respectively. Eugenio obtained his PhD at the Instituto de Investigaciones Científicas y Tecnológicas en Electrónica (ICYTE), part of the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) and UNMDP. His primary research activities involved hydrodynamic modeling and control of wave energy systems.

In September 2024, he joined the Centre for Ocean Energy Research (COER) at NUI Maynooth as a postdoctoral researcher focused on control development and control co-design for the EU Horizon Seawater Hydraulic (SHY) project. The SHY project aims to play an instrumental role in unlocking the potential of wave energy converters by developing key components of a seawater hydraulic power-take-off (PTO) system, coupled with an advanced control strategy for a novel Danish wave energy converter. This dual focus seeks to reduce the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) while simultaneously minimizing environmental impact. The project involves several partners and collaborations aimed at succeeding in their objectives.
