Biography
Colm Fitzgerald completed his MSc degree by research on the optmisation of wave energy array configurations at University College Cork, where he also received a BSc in Physics and Applied Mathematics. Colm earned his PhD at Loughborough University (UK) focusing on linearised time-domain simulations for floating structures. He has previous post-doctoral research experience from the University of Oxford where he first explored nonlinear potential flow effects in wave energy array interactions and thereafter examined design wave applications in coastal wave interactions. More recently, he spent seven years as a Research Officer at Inland Fisheries Ireland developing and applying quantitative mathematical and statistical methods to fisheries and ecological datasets.
In August 2024, Colm began work at COER on the Horizon EU-funded SHY project on control strategy optimisation of a dynamic passive controller for a Seawater Hydraulic power-take off integrated in the Wavepiston device.
