PhD scholarships information

For students interested in research, there are a number of PhD scholarships available.  Below are some of the scholarships, the eligibility criteria and closing dates for PhD scholarships.  Each of the scholarships below include a monthly stipend, payment of fees and a research expenses budget.  If interested, contact us at carrieanne.barry@mu.ie

MU John & Pat Hume Doctoral Awards | Maynooth University – This call will open on around the 30th November and close on 30th January.  It is open to Irish, EU and international students who hold a first or upper second class undergraduate or master’s degree.  One of the John and Pat Hume awards is particularly for women in STEM.

Doctoral Scholarships | Maynooth University – This is open all year to all applicants holding a relevant first or upper second-class degree or a relevant master’s degree.  The candidate will be required to undertake up to 240 hours of teaching support duties per year (up to 4 hours per week)

Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme | Funding | Irish Research Council – This generally opens in early September and closes in late October.  Most of the funding will be awarded to Irish/UK citizens (18% success rate), but exceptional international students can be offered funding (success rate 5%).

EU Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships

Expressions of interest are invited from recent PhD graduates, or PhD students expected to graduate in 2023, to apply for an EU Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Centre for Ocean Energy Research (COER) at Maynooth University. Possible project areas include:

Fault-tolerant control for wave energy

Control co-design of wave energy devices and arrays

However, other project areas, which have a high level of research innovation and are aligned with the research interests of COER, can also be suggested.

Some assistance with project proposals from COER is offered to suitable applicants, as well as more general application assistance from the Maynooth University Research Development Office. The application deadline is 13th September 2023.
