The Centre for Ocean Energy Research (COER) at Maynooth University, Ireland is anticipating a number of funded PhD opportunities for 4-year structured PhD projects. A 4-year stipend of €18,500 per annum (with fees paid) is available to suitable candidates, along with expenses for conference travel, materials, etc. All the projects have international collaborators (a mixture of academic and industrial, in Norway, Denmark, and USA) and it is anticipated that one or more periods of secondment of the PhD students at collaborator sites will be appropriate.
The spread of project areas is diverse, but include the following: hydrodynamic and wave-grid modelling, wave energy control system design, control co-design, forecasting and estimation, wind-wave systems, fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control.
Applicants should be well qualified to bachelor’s or master’s degree level in one of the following areas: mechanical/mechatronic engineering, electronic engineering, control engineering. Exceptional students in applied maths or hydrodynamics may be considered.
